Whitaker & Oliver
Whitaker & Oliver is MB Whitaker and Scot Oliver, a Boise singer/songwriter duo with a tight performance style — and a loyal local following built over the past ten years in the region's cafes, wineries, festivals, private parties and public events. Their distinctive sound includes a mix of strong original songs and unique covers, for which they trade leads and harmonies on voice and acoustic guitars. On several songs Scot fills in with harmonicas. Their material ranges from heartfelt love songs to uptempo toe-tappers to dramatic stories with a strong sense of place. Originally from the southern Appalachians, Scot performed in groups there and later in Grangeville and Moscow (Often Running, Coyote Special), before moving to Boise, where for years he was content to jam with friends and play occasional solo gigs downtown. MB, meanwhile, performed in well-known local acoustic bands, including The Big Eddy and The Heard — an all-originals four-piece ensemble that recorded three albums. When that project disbanded, she and Scot began crafting the two-person act that became Whitaker & Oliver. They discovered that their chemistry as friends and artists made a strong foundation for the songs each had written, as well as rearrangements of songs from other artists. Whitaker & Oliver's repertoire continues to grow and expand but their distinctive sound remains a constant. Whitaker & Oliver enjoy playing for audiences of all types and sizes. Their recent CD, "Live From the Living Room" was recorded live in Scot's living room, where the duo jams and rehearses — capturing some of the excitement of their live music and a bit of the flavor of the room where their music originates and evolves. The resulting album, released in June 2021, has been heard on local radio stations, and can be found on Spotify, Apple Music, The Record Exchange, Amazon and other online locations.
