Jones & Woolf

Sydney, Australia

Joel Woolf is a Sydney-based musician, composer and sound artist who is seeking to explore the nexus between electronic and acoustic sounds in his work, with a focus on communicating emotion and narrative through sound and music. He is particularly interested in exploring unusual treatments of acoustic instruments; processing and manipulating the everyday sounds we are used to into something that is new while maintaining a surprising familiarity. Using his boutique collection of acoustic instruments and analogue synthesizers, alongside cutting edge digital techniques, Joel writes music that complements the emotional essence of each story. After majoring in jazz saxophone at the Australian National University Joel spent time living in Los Angeles, before returning to Sydney to live and work. He subsequently studied screen composition at the Australian Film Television and Radio School. His music has been featured in numerous artistic formats including film, podcasts, television, radio and museum installations. As a musician and songwriter Joel’s music has been broadcast widely, as well as featured in TV shows and commercials. Joel is currently a member of the indie pop group Hollow States and composes the music for the audio fiction podcast Jones & Woolf
