Get Sh*t Done: Putting the Words Down
Three working writers from Spokane, WA (a poet, fiction writer, and YA author) formed an accountability group called “Get Sh*T Done,” with the intent on getting sh*t done in their professional lives. Too often writers form groups to only critique writing, failing to develop the professional skill sets required to be a professional artist. The GSD group meets monthly and, through co-mentorship, addresses such topics as submitting work, getting an agent, negotiating contracts, networking with other writers, and landing professional teaching/speaking engagements. Our vision for Storyfort is a 60-minute panel/reading, moderated by writer Anne Kilfoyle, where we read work from the three genres mentioned above, and speak about how forming an artist accountability group has made the lonely work of writing far less isolating and has lead to such professional successes as a novel contract, nationally published interviews, a newspaper column, and published short fiction.
