Born into a family of storytellers, Ben took to the art at an early age. His own performances began by the age of nine. By seventeen, against completion from across the nation, Ben was awarded the Grand Torchbearer Award at the National Youth Storytelling Showcase. He was also a featured youth teller at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough Tennessee. Since then he has concentrated on stories of Idaho history: from Early Boise Stories, a collection of tales about Boise’s beginnings, to History from the Ashes, about the devastation of the Big Burn of 1910, and Boise: Gem of the Mountains, stories of Boise’s immigrants and minorities.
