Yogafort is 3 days of classes set to live music, as global instructors and musicians mix with the local community to ignite the heart and soul of our unique, intimate yoga festival experience. This is your place to center and let us anchor you among the unparalleled community and energy of Treefort Music Fest. For a great glimpse of the magic Yogafort offers check out this video recap from last year.
Yogafort began in the second year of Treefort Music Fest, in 2013, with the intention of offering Treeforters a break during the festivities to rejuvenate and realign after days and nights of good times. Power-Couple Besties Marisa Weppner and Celeste Bolin hounded Treefort Leadership for months to offer their passions, yoga and dance, in service to the festival. Greenlighted just a couple weeks before the festival began, they were each given one-hour slots on Saturday and Sunday morning at the El Korah Shrine. With a decent turnout and a positive receptive from the hipsters in attendance, Celeste and Marisa were inspired to ask Treefort for the opportunity to plan a mini yoga fest for the next year’s lineup. The stars aligned and they were granted daytime programming at the Linen Building. “Build it and they will come” was the motto. From the beginning, the driving motivation has been for Yogafort to be a community-centric event celebrating the vibrant movement scene of Boise and the surrounding regions. By inviting a select few globally renowned yoga friends and musicians Marisa and Celeste have made on their travels, Yogafort has quickly become the largest yoga festival in Idaho and rivals the lineup of international yoga retreats and festivals. Local studio sponsorship has been an integral aspect of Yogafort, and thanks Shanti Yoga, Yoga Tree of Boise, Udaya Yoga and Sage Yoga & Wellness for sponsoring Yogafort every year since that first fest at the Linen Building.
Marisa is driven to create Yogafort from a couple central passions: to bring the magic and joy she experiences while traveling and teaching at yoga festivals all over the world to Boise; to give Treeforters a sanctuary to realign and and ground in the midst of festival life; AND to introduce Treefort Music Fest to yogis who might be shy about engaging in the absolute awesomeness that is Treefort. Out of her love for music (she is DJ Chakra Khan, a Radio Boise programmer, and on the Artist Committee for Treefort Music Fest) it is foundational to Yogafort that all the classes are set to live music. The alchemy of music, consciousness, and movement creates radiant high vibes, connection, and offers the potential for deep transformation.
Celeste has a deep passion for helping to make Yogafort a representation of everything that is healing, fun, and inspiring at music and movement festivals. Having attending and taught at transformational festivals for over 10 years from Burning Man to Bonnaroo to Udaya Live in Bulgaria, she has been forever impacted by the beautiful synergy of the “soup” of the festival experience. And she is committed to sharing that with her hometown community of Boise, ID. Celeste also moonlights at The Dance Commander and loves the chance to share her sweat for joy dance experience each year at the festival. So the why of Yogafort is pretty simple for Celeste: to support a time and space for everyone to get invigorated by the magic of movement and music in an all-inclusive, safe environment.
Each year Yogafort has grown a little bit more. From the Linen Building to the Rose Room to its current home in the gorgeous penthouse of the JUMP building overlooking all of Treefort with sweeping vistas of the Treasure Valley, Yogafort is a world-class yoga festival tucked into the amazing mountain oasis of Boise, ID. Even with its growth, inclusion is still at the heart of Yogafort, and each year new studios and local businesses get involved. Teachers and musicians from our community are given the spotlight to shine bright on the Yogafort stage. Renowned artists such as Sheela Bringi, Masood Ali Khan, East Forest, and Tony G have come to almost every Yogafort and feel like old friends. They tell us each year Yogafort and Treefort Music Fest are their favorite events, and they can’t wait to come back! And that is what Yogafort is all about – music, movement, healing, laughter, and COMMUNITY all nestled into the place we lovingly call home, Boise, ID.
Yogafort is a passion project to bring the joy I feel while traveling and attending yoga festivals to my hometown of Boise! I want everyone to experience the magic and radiant love of a well-curated lineup of diverse yoga practices all set to live music ~ creating an elevated, inclusive vibe like no other.
“Love is the strongest medicine. It is more powerful than electricity.” – Neem Karoli Baba
I commit myself to Yogafort because I love my hometown of Boise, Idaho + Treefort Music Fest + Dance, Yoga and Live music! Getting all those things together with amazing talent and spirits from across the world is my pure bliss state, and I am committed to offering it to everyone in an inclusive, accessible, and affordable way.
“Get down with your bad self!” – Momma Bolin
I’m a dancer on a mission to empower all beings to love their best lives, embrace their individuality, and find confidence though movement and self-expression. Yogafort is just that. A safe environment where you can find that sweet release amid other beautiful unicorns just trying to do the same thing.
“If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love anybody else?”- RuPaul
Yogafort is a way I remind myself that I am part of something bigger, a community. It’s easy to feel separate from each other in the busy-ness of day to day, but through events like this, we remember that we are all connected, and as Ram Dass said, “We’re all just walking each other home.”
“You are the sky – everything else, it’s just the weather.” – Pema Chodron
I’m in love with yoga and I love this community so for 3 days my two favorite things come together with all my favorite people and create the best weekend of the year.
“Love isn’t a state of perfect caring. It is an active noun like struggle. To Love someone is to strive to accept that person exactly the way he or she is, right here and now”
Yogafort is my favorite time of year in Boise. Three days of diverse yoga and movement are the best gift anyone could ask for! The energy of the space is full of love and and acceptance, one where anyone can thrive. Yogafort is truly magical.
“When you become the image of your own imagination, it’s the most powerful thing you could ever do.” -RuPaul
I love yoga, music + community. I love Yogafort because it encompasses all of this so perfectly.
“Nothing is forever. Everything is impermanent. It is this impermanence, which makes our lives so special.”
Really connecting to my body through movement keeps me closer to being my best self. Yogafort is such a safe, unique environment for cultivating your relationship with yourself, and the relationship we all have with the communities we’re a part of. It is so special to me!
“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.”- Lao Tzu
