Foodfort 2019 is comin’ in hot!
Foodfort Tastes is back to dish up the best of festival fare. This year’s chef-farmer-food community dinner, A Night at Kachka, features Chef Bonnie Morales, co-owner and head chef of Kachka in Portland and James Beard finalist. The following evening, local chefs from Zee’s Rooftop Cafe, The Wylder, Madre, Lime & a Coconut, Petite 4, Camel’s Crossing, and Wild Root to present Street Eats, a market-style shindig inspired by the night markets of Asia and South America. On Saturday, March 23rd, treat yourself to a classic steak lunch prepared by James Beard Award Winning Chef Hugh Acheson.

A NIGHT AT KACHKA
A Homage to Russian Cuisine with Chef Bonnie Morales
Foodfort is excited to bring back the chef-farmer-food community dinner on Wednesday, March 20, 6-9pm at the Basque Center. A Night at Kachka, features Chef Bonnie Morales, co-owner and head chef of Kachka in Portland and James Beard finalist. Get a taste of Russian cuisine pairs specialty cocktails made by Buffalo Trace. Tickets are $100 and will be available to those 21+ on March 1st.
Chef Morales is the daughter of Belarusian immigrants and her food is inspired by the cuisines of Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia and Uzbekistan. It’s not just the diners of Portland who think her food is crave-worthy. Chef Morales has received accolades nationally including 2018 finalist for James Bear Award for Best Chef: Northwest, Star Chef’s Rising Star Chef 2018 and Bon Appetit magazine’s Generation Next Chefs in 2017. Kachka was just named one of “America’s 38 Essential Restaurants” by Eater.com.
Chef Morales is the kind of artist we love at Foodfort. Highly trained and innovative, her culinary reputation is well-deserved. Her peers and diners in Portland will tell you Bonnie is giving, collaborative and awesome to work with. Bonnie will be joined in Boise by her husband Isreal Morales who is co-owner of Kachka and the front of house and beverage program genius.
RAISING THE STEAKS WITH HUGH ACHESON
Join Foodfort alum and James Beard Award Winning Chef Hugh Acheson as he treats us to a classic steak lunch on Saturday, March 23rd, 12:30-2pm, at the Basque Center. Featuring beef from local Snake River Farms, the menu will include beef tartare, kimchi collard greens, grilled strip steak, and more. Come feast your eyes, fill your stomachs, and fuel yourself for the weekend. Tickets are $45 and will be available to those 21+ on March 1st.
Hugh Acheson is the chef/owner of 5&10 and The National located in Athens, GA, as well as Empire State South and Spiller Park Coffee. He is also the founder of Seed Life Skills, a living, multimedia curriculum built to serve the needs of the modern Family & Consumer Sciences (founded as Home Economics) classroom, emphasizing retainable real life skills with topics including hands-on culinary instruction, conscious consumer economics, and D.I.Y. design principles.
Local chefs from Zee’s Rooftop Cafe, The Wylder, Madre, Lime & a Coconut, Petite 4, Camel’s Crossing, The STIL, and Wild Root present Street Eats, a market-style shindig inspired by the night markets of Asia and South America, with chefs providing tastes and samples of their delicious dishes to be paired with special cocktails made by Buffalo Trace. Join us for dinner anytime starting as early as 5:30pm until 8pm on Thursday, March 21 at the Basque Center. Tickets are $35 and will be available to those 21+ on March 1st.
FOODFORT AT ALEFORT
Though Foodfort will primarily take place at the Basque Center this year, you can still find Foodfort Tastes at Alefort (21+), featuring new grub daily to enjoy with Alefort beers. Friday is an exploration of the Boise taco phenomenon, featuring freshly prepared tortillas filled with taco offerings from a diverse group of local restaurants. Saturday features a Basque experience with traditional food, dancing and a stream of cider. Sunday features brunch foods paired with crisp coffee beers at the Alefort Bar.
